Claisse, Genevieve
Geneviève Claisse (1935-2018). French artist born 1935 in Quiévy, in the north of France. Claisse was the great niece of abstract painter Auguste Herbin, a founder of the Parisian association of artists Abstraction-Création. She was self-taught and became the great personality of abstract geometry in French Art Circles. She was devoted to formal purity and perfection in visual execution and the transfiguration of works through the intensity of colour relationships and thickness of lines. Her work is present today in many museums and private collections worldwide and she has a permanent collection in the Matisse Museum. Many art establishments have classified her works as 'ones to keep an eye on' because of their quality, complex simplicity and beauty. One for the Interior Designer in you.
