  • Fernando Farulli (1923-1997). Fernando Farulli was an Italian painter and engraver born in Florence in 1923, from a family of workers persecuted by the fascists. Known colloquially as the Italian Bacon, he was renowned for his modern and powerful figures. He was a painter of unquestionable talent.  He was holder of the chair of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, and joined the movements “Arte Oggi” in Florence and the “Pros and Cons” of Rome. Farulli will always represent the civil conscience of those men who, after the Second World War, wanted to contribute to the reconstruction (also moral), through art and beauty, and for this reason his works are an important testimony of the history of those post-war decades. He produced such iconic works as ‘the scream of the teenager’.

He studied at the Porta Romana art school and taught painting at the Sesto Fiorentino art institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He made his debut show in Milan in 1950 and exhibited frequently thereafter, most notably, Rome (1963, 1974), Pasadena (1961, 1966), Berlin (1970, 1972). Prato (1976), Certaldo (1977), Brussels (1978), Milan (1980, Palazzo della Permanente), Castiglioncello (1988), Hamamatsu in Japan (1989), Florence (1992), Milan (1992), Florence (1993), Piobino (1993).

The works of Fernando Farulli range from the problems affecting industrial development to still lifes and female figures. Besides painting and printmaking, Farulli was also active in the theater, helping to create sets for productions in Italy and elsewhere in Europe.

His works are permanently displayed by the Pirra Art Gallery, Italy.
