Waldorf, Benno

Benno Walldorf (1928-1985). German painter and graphic artist , who was also active as a jazz musician and photographer. Largely self-taught, he used colorful visual language, combined with elements of a magical realism with influences of Surrealism and Pop Art, to create his images.  Walldorf devoted particular attention to screen printing, whose intense direct colourfulness particularly suited him.  In the 1970s, the era of "art in construction", he received numerous commissions for murals including:  the union house of IG Chemie, paper, ceramics in Hanover; Deutche Bank in Bad Homberg; Frankfurt Technical City Hall; University of Konstanz, Faculty of Arts, University Library.
